We all want our four-legged partners to perform at their best but with horses, preventing pain and injuries can be tricky. One major reason is that horses, as prey animals, have the evolutionary urge to hide their pain, which makes it even harder to detect or prevent it.
Here are three things we do to keep our jumping horses happy and healthy - things you can do, too!
1. Jumping balance
We check their jumping balance and basically all the data that we get from our jumping sessions. That includes jumping symmetry, take-off and landing angles, tempo, speed, and jump height. That helps us see how our horses are doing and how we need to plan future training.
2. Thoughtful workload
Another essential tip to keep horses healthy? We make sure not to overwork them. We check our intensity charts and pay good attention to them. One or two high-intensity sessions in a for are fine but more need to be completed with a lower-intensity workout as well!
3. Jump count
This may seem silly but we keep an eye on the jump count. Sometimes riders lose track of time and forget how much they have already jumped in a session. Checking the jump count is a great tool to keep jumping sessions real and within the limits of beneficial workload.
You can find all these features in our app and we recommend checking them out as they can help to keep your furry partners happy and healthy!
